Long duct runs cause this. Second-floor laundry rooms push air up through an attic to a roof cap. That is often well over 25 feet of pipe, plus elbows. Every elbow eats more equivalent length. Interior condo and townhome closets do the same thing through a vertical chase. The dryer blower was never built for that. Air slows, lint drops out, and the run loads up from the inside.

Signs are easy to read. Two or three cycles to dry towels. A hot, humid laundry room. No flap movement at the exterior hood. Lint on the siding below the vent. A damp, musty smell in the drum between loads.

A booster is not the first move. We clean and measure the run first. Crushed foil behind a pedestal-mounted front-loader in a tight closet is a duct problem, not a fan problem. Same with a bird nest in a roof jack after spring. Fix those, and many runs breathe fine.

When a booster is right, it mounts in rigid metal, in the straightest accessible section, with a pressure or current switch so it runs only with the dryer. It needs power nearby and real access for service. A fan sealed into a finished ceiling becomes someone's drywall repair later.
